Industrial Engineering is a science to design, implement and improve the integrated system consisting of people, materials, equipment, energy, and information. It uses mathematical, physical, and social science expertise and technology, combines principles and methods of engineering analysis and design, to confirm, predict and evaluate the results of the system.

The major of industrial engineering regards the mechanical engineering as technical support, emphasizes the comprehensive application of the theories and methods in engineering, economics, management, and industrial engineering and management, and solving practical problems, with an aim to cultivate field operation and management talents for the production and manufacturing industries of Qingdao and the surrounding areas.
2. Focusing on school-enterprise cooperation and high practical ability of the graduates
Industrial Engineering attaches great importance to practical teaching. There is a training base inside the university. There are some student internship bases outside such as Liuzhou Wuling Motors United Development Co., Ltd. Shandong Branch, Qingdao Hisense Electric Co., Ltd., SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co. Ltd. Qingdao Branch. The curriculum design, metalworking, and cognition practice are relying on the facts of the actual production sites; the topics of the graduation projects all come from actual production projects.

In the process of talents training, the major of Industrial Engineering focuses on the individualized guidance of the students, pays attention to the training of the students’ employment outlook. After several years of exploration, the major has achieved rich initial results. In 2014, the employment rate was 100%; the Pub Med was 30%.
Prospects:
70 percent of Industrial Engineering graduates are working as industrial engineers, systems analysts, production engineers, management consultants, operating analysts in industrial enterprises, financial and banking sectors, advisory services or government agencies. The remaining 30% are studying as postgraduates in industrial engineering, management, legal and other majors. After graduation, most of them work as full-time industrial engineers.
